1. TikTok’s 52 Billion Nail Art Views: How Ecom Sellers Can Cash In
French brand Manucurist proves the power of niche differentiation, riding TikTok’s #NailArt trend (52 billion views) with a "toxic-free, biodegradable, at-home salon" model. Its Green Collection—featuring plant-based formulas and refillable kits (€89+)—commands a €150+ average order value and 30% repeat purchases via Shopify DTC. By blending UGC content (ASMR tutorials, before/after transformations) and sustainability storytelling, the brand taps into the $24 billion global nail care market’s surge for "clean beauty" and DIY solutions.

2. Trump: U.S. to Retain 10% Baseline Tariff
President Trump announced that the U.S. will maintain a 10% baseline tariff, even with trade agreements. After unveiling reciprocal tariffs on April 2, he granted a 90-day suspension for countries except Canada and Mexico; others face the 10% tariff. On Friday, Trump told White House reporters that attractive terms could earn exemptions. He expects new trade deals in coming weeks.
3. Japan’s Prime Minister Reaffirms Push for Zero Tariffs on U.S. Exports
On May 11, Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba reiterated his demand for zero U.S. tariffs in upcoming talks, especially on autos. He stressed that Japanese carmakers, major U.S. investors and job creators, would struggle to invest if tariffs weaken their industry. While citing the recent U.S.-UK trade deal as a model, Ishiba insisted on zero tariffs for Japan’s exports.
4. Walmart Reinstates Small Order Fees
Walmart announced it will reinstate a $6.99 fee for Walmart+ Assist orders under $35, denying tariff-related speculation. Previously waived during COVID, the fee aims to optimize online order costs. Walmart notes it aligns with industry norms, applies only to online shopping, and does not affect in-store purchases.
5. U.S.-China Cargo Flights Halved
Less than a week after the small parcel tax exemption ended, U.S.-China cargo flight capacity has dropped by half. A Zhejiang Airport Group source told Caixin on May 9 that U.S.-bound flights are nearly grounded, with fares falling to ~20 yuan/kg. Only three flights operated on May 1, 2, and 8. Remaining cross-border e-commerce cargo fills available flights.
