2. TikTok CEO Meets with Trump
On Monday, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew met with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the ongoing TikTok ban. During a press conference, Trump stated that he would “look into” the ban. 3. ChatGPT Search Engine Now Open to All Users with Real-Time Search
On December 16, OpenAI announced the rollout of its search engine to all users, along with new updates. This feature was first introduced to paid subscribers in October. ChatGPT will automatically decide whether to use its search tool for certain queries, with users able to manually toggle the feature via a new "web search" icon in the interface. Powered by a fine-tuned version of OpenAI's GPT-4o model, the search tool provides real-time information like sports scores, news, and stock quotes, complete with source links. UPS has announced that, starting January 13, 2025, it will raise SurePost service rates and delivery area surcharges. The rate increases will vary based on package weight and shipping distance. For example, a 1-pound package shipped to Zone 2 will see a nearly 10% rate hike, while a 25-pound package shipped to Zone 8 will increase by 6.7%. This exceeds last year’s 5.9% increase. SurePost, a cost-effective shipping method, has driven growth in UPS’s residential ground shipments. However, postal services will no longer offer discounted contract rates and plan to increase Parcel Select rates. UPS is also enhancing its “near match algorithm” to reduce delivery costs and aims to increase the proportion of SurePost shipments to 50% by 2028.
