2. Russia to Implement Mandatory Product Labeling from March 1, 2025
Starting March 1, 2025, Russia will implement new mandatory product labeling regulations, affecting a wide range of categories. Juice, soft drinks, beer, and low-alcohol beverages will be required to submit information to the "Honest Sign" system. Additionally, the scope of mandatory labeling for apparel and lingerie products will be expanded. Bicycles and bicycle racks without labels will be prohibited from circulation. Medical products, veterinary drugs, canned foods, and wet pet foods will also have respective labeling requirements. Cosmetics, household chemicals, groceries, and lubricants will gradually implement the labeling system, with varying penalties for non-compliance.
3. 85% of Cross-Border E-Commerce Transactions in Korea Come from AliExpress
According to a recent report by South Korean market research agency Wiseapp, the total payment volume of South Korean consumers on Chinese cross-border e-commerce platforms in 2024 saw a significant increase, reaching 4.2 trillion KRW—three times higher than in 2022. AliExpress accounted for 85% of the total transactions. The report also showed that in 2024, South Korean consumers spent 3.6897 trillion KRW on AliExpress and 602 billion KRW on Temu. AliExpress remains the most important platform for Chinese cross-border merchants entering the South Korean market.
4. Trump Might Reinvigorate the Trade Discrimination Act to Support Tariffs
Trade and legal experts suggest that U.S. President Trump may revive the long-forgotten Trade Act of 1930 to support his tariff measures and match higher import taxes from other countries. Trump has stated that the new U.S. tariff rates will "take effect almost immediately," and Section 338 of the Trade Act will provide him with a fast-track mechanism to implement the tariffs. While the law has only been used as a threat and never directly applied, it allows the president to impose up to 50% tariffs on imports from countries found to "discriminate" against U.S. businesses.
5. SHEIN Launches "Sales Explosion Program" for 2025
SHEIN has launched a major "Sales Explosion Program" as a key initiative for its platform business in 2025. The program offers massive traffic support for sellers, targeting billions of dollars in sales both inside and outside the platform. Based on research into global consumer markets in over 150 countries and regions, SHEIN has developed a comprehensive overseas marketing calendar, integrating consumption nodes from key markets in Europe, the U.S., the Middle East, Japan, and South Korea. Sellers can easily target high-conversion overseas sales scenarios tailored to their main categories and market characteristics by participating in the program, ensuring access to boosted traffic.
