2. US Proposes New Rules to Close Shein and Temu Duty-Free Loopholes
The US government is set to introduce new regulations targeting Shein and Temu for abusing the "de minimis" tax exemption. This rule allows items under $800 to enter the US duty-free. The proposed changes will enforce stricter checks on goods from China and apply tariffs under Sections 301, 232, and 201. The goal is to protect consumers and American businesses while preventing Chinese companies from undermining US workers by exploiting these exemptions. Categories most affected include apparel, home goods, and electronics.
